By Justin Phipps:
I learned to snowboard at Copper Mountain and this weekend I am going to back to for a competition and it’ll be the first time for me to ride there in five years!
I don’t remember a whole lot, but here’s what I can remember. First, dad would take me to Union Creek where we rode an old two seat chairlift, most of the time we’d be the only two people on it. It was so much fun. I also remember that we went and watched our friend Nate Latimer compete in the USASA boardercross. Even though I didn’t really pay attention to the riders I do remember the course looked really tough.
One of the other memories I have was when I got a bad headache from getting dehydrated. I got on the chair and when we got to the top I couldn’t even make it half way down through Catalyst. We had to get a snowmobile and ski patrol to help. But they gave me a free Snickers bar.
Another thing I remember was the place we always had lunch, at Jack’s. It was always so crowded in there. Most of the time we would end up eating on the floor.
Well, as I said, this weekend will be my first time back since I was five. It is going to be a lot of fun.
